The story behind the playlist: For Volume 2, I found myself reaching for lusher, acoustic textures; less electronic than the music used in Volume 1, more space for arrangements that breathe. Minnie Riperton’s “Baby, This Love I Have” was the perfect opening track for the Fall / Winter ‘25 issue: warm, intricate, and crescendoing, it sets the right tone for a new season of the magazine. From there, Moloko’s “Pure Pleasure Seeker” channels Angelique Nehmzow: funky, bold, shapeshifting, impossible to pin down yet wholly her own. CeeLo Green’s “I Want You” belongs to Eleftheria Michalaki: soulful, rooted in Atlanta, radiant in its sincerity and its unwavering belief in goodness. Luedji Luna’s “Banho de Folhas” is a song I listened to a lot while visiting Rio de Janeiro and observing the city’s deep connection to soccer, which made it a perfect choice for Giovanni Scuri’s profile, one marked by both ease and passion. David Bowie’s “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” was my choice for Ben Mattinson—its guitar grit and sophistication recalling not just Bowie’s craft but Ben’s own artisanship. Little Simz’s “Flowers” is for Lola Viggi, especially the last thirty seconds of the track, which pull me back to discovering Simz in London in 2022 while visiting Lola. And closing, Babymorocco’s “i wish you would make it easy” is Emma Bright’s: fluid, liquid, oceanic, reminding me of the groundedness she always carries with her.
